Last Long Run Done, 7 More Days to GO!

Hubby and I are finished our half marathon training! We completed our last long run yesterday, 12.25 miles, with a sub nine pace. I struggled a little bit with this run yesterday around miles 8 and 9, and honestly wanted to just stop running altogether, but I pushed it out (thank you Tangerine Powerbar gel) and got 'er done!
I tell people I am not a long distance runner. I don't thoroughly enjoy running long distances for hours on end, but I will say that since doing this training, I have loved the time I have spent with my hubby. We have never done anything like this before and I love that we can do things we enjoy together and be each other's support. I couldn't imagine logging all these miles without it. (the support that is). And he believes in me and thinks I can do anything, which is just ..... well it's awesome and it's helped me get this training done.

I will also say that since training for the triathlon, adding regular brick work outs has definitely helped me this go around. Back in 2009 when I completed my first one with Kristina and swore off all things ending in "-arathon", all she and I did was run. Even though each distance we ran was further than I had ever gone before, simply running that long was tough for me. But with bricking, it wasn't so hard this time around. AND like I said on my other blog, the only reason why I considered doing this one to begin with, was to celebrate 13.1 years married. NOW, I can swear off anything ending in "-arathon" because I can ASSURE you this girl will NOT be running 26.2 miles on my 26th wedding anniversary!

Wish us luck!

  1. Whoohoo! Nice work! I bet it's awesome to do it with your husband. I wish I could coerce mine into training with me LOL

  2. OK, I know I will sound dumb, but you keep talking about "brick" workouts. What exactly are those? I've been cross training, with running at least 45 min to an hour on Mon, Wed and Sat, and then lifting/elliptical at the gym on Tues, Thurs, Fri when the boys are at preschool. I think that doing resistance intervals on the elliptical has really helped my 5K time (not that it's anything special as of yet), but still the question remains: what the heck is a brick?
